An Open-Source Monte Carlo Ray-Tracing Simulation Tool for Luminescent Solar Concentrators with Validation Studies Employing Scattering Phosphor Films

Luminescent solar concentrators enhance the power output of cells through wave-guided luminescent emission and have great potential as building-integrated photovoltaics. with a variety geometries absorbing–emitting materials been reported in literature. As breadth available experimental configurations continues to grow, there is an increasing need for versatile Monte Carlo ray-tracing simulation tools analyze performance these devices specific applications. This paper presents framework tool that can be used host three-dimensional geometries. It incorporates custom radiative transport models consider effects scattering from media, while simultaneously modeling absorption emission. The model validated using results planar wedge-shaped employing phosphor films. Performance was studied function length, wavelength, angle incidence incoming light. data validation studies code (written Python programming language) associated described are publically available.
